Crew Technician

Basic Functions:

This position is responsible for providing weatherization services as directed by the Crew Leader with an emphasis on air sealing and insulation.

General Description:

This position is responsible for performing weatherization services within qualified residences. As directed by the Crew Leader, the Crew Technician loads equipment and materials onto the truck for each day’s work, performs weatherization services on the job site and performs set-up and take down of material and equipment (including any required safety protocols) at each job. This position performs a variety of weatherization services with an emphasis on air sealing and installing insulation.

Job Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

  • Weatherization Program responsibilities –

Take necessary action to complete contract goals in a timely manner. Successfully work with others to achieve desired results, contribute to team projects; exchange ideas while developing a positive working relationship. Demonstrate effective communication for requirements of the position. Provide excellent customer service.

  • Crew Technician Functions –

Load and unload trucks. Set-up and take down materials and equipment at each job. Maintain tools and materials in an organized manner. Complete work according to the specifications within the SWS (Standard Work Specifications) and Weatherization Assistance Program Standards. Identify potential deferral issues, source of the problem and potential solutions. Perform air sealing and minor repairs; install exhaust fan venting – including roof vents; install and seal ducts; install light bulbs, low-flow restrictors and CO/smoke detectors. Install loose fill/dense pack insulation per specifications. Compare material use to coverage required. Follow safe work practices and use PPE as required. Immediately report any work hazards to Crew Leaders or other management personnel. Keep work area clean and properly dispose of waste and hazardous materials. Perform basic inspection and maintenance of tools and equipment, reporting any lost or broken items. Identify and report re-existing conditions (e.g. within work spaces – crawl space, knee wall, etc,) that are not included in the work order. Other duties as assigned.

  • Teamwork, Communication, Professionalism & Ethics –

Coordinate and communicate in a professional manner with Crew Leader, Field Supervisors, Internal Production Manager and others to verify work flow, required materials, and schedule. Work cooperatively as an effective team member to ensure a smooth work flow and an effective use of company time. Provide courteous and professional customer service when interacting with residential clients and owners of properties where work is being performed. Maintain professionalism at all times including in transit. Must possess good communication skills and maintain professionalism at all times when interacting with clients, coworkers and the community. Represent Mountain CAP and its mission at all times.

Job Skill Requirements:

The ability to simultaneously keep several projects moving and on target. Knowledge and understanding of building science principles, worker safety regulations (OSHA), home construction and weatherization. Successfully obtain and maintain Lead Safe Renovator certification. Successful completion of training (e.g., OSHA 10-hour) and required certification tests (providing by Mountain CAP). Knowledge of basic math skills, proper use and basic maintenance of hand, power tools and equipment. Ability to interact with a variety of personnel in a busy production environment. Exhibit strong attention to detail, safety consciousness and a willingness to learn.

Education Requirements:

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent experience required.

Desired Characteristics:

Technical school or a college degree is an asset. General carpentry skills, as well as basic computer knowledge in Microsoft programs such as Word and Excel.
